Still Life with Blue Bottle, painted in 1911, offers an early example of Weber’s experimentation in Expressionism. In that important year, Weber solidified his relationship with photographer and dealer Alfred Stieglitz through a solo exhibition at the esteemed 291 Gallery. The preceding year saw Weber featured in the group show “Younger American Painters,” highlighting students of Henri Matisse, and he also contributed an essay to Stieglitz’s Camera Work.
