The Andrew & Betsy Wyeth Study Center of the Brandywine Museum of Art confirms that this object is recorded in Betsy James Wyeth's files.


The present watercolor is accompanied by a letter written by Andrew Wyeth and dated December 20, 1974, Wyeth writes: “I am so pleased you have my watercolors. Ocean House This was painted in our living room in our house in Maine last Fall and I feel has the spirit of the sea coast.” The watercolor has a partially mended L-shaped tear at the lower right, likely mended by the artist himself. In a postscript to his letter to the first owner of the watercolor Wyeth adds “Do not worry about the small tear on lower right as it is a trade mark of most of my best watercolors. A sign of my excitement in painting the watercolors. A.W. “
